Councilman John Moore saves the day by introducing a successful motion to delay Tra Ponti approval until council can more fully consider their options, although he has to open up a can of Al Pacino whoopass on John Simmonds to get there

Venice Florida! dot com joins with the Venice community in saluting John Moore -- Sir, you have our absolute awe and admiration for the moral courage you have shown in the face of near-total adversity.

Part 1: John Moore as Clarence Darrow (8:50) Mayor Fred Hammett opens up the Tra Ponti quasi-judicial hearing. Councilman John Moore jumps right in before anything can get started and introduces a motion to delay making a decision at this time pending a workshop to go over all of the details that haven't been reviewed. Councilman John Simmonds tries to interrupt Moore, Moore gently but firmly advises Simmonds that Simmonds is out of order. Moore continues on with what turns into a clinic on how good government is supposed to operate. This clip is unedited.
Part 2: John Moore as Al Pacino (6:26) The beginning of this clip picks up right where the above clip ends -- the applause for Moore (at end of above clip) has just ended. Simmonds then tries to restart his attack on Moore. This time Moore has had it -- Moore opens up a can of Al Pacino whoopass on Simmonds. Councilman Rick Tacy immediately pipes up in agreement with Moore, then there's an edit that cuts to later in the discussion where Simmonds makes an unsuccessful attempt at saving face while Hammett and Councilman Bill Willson defend their previous votes in support of Tra Ponti and, at the same time, explain their sudden change of heart.
Part 3: The critics give raves (2:15) Minutes after the vote, council candidate Ernest Zavodnyik and mayoral candidate Ed Martin give their reactions to what just happened.
