Dear Taxpayers League member and friends of the VTL:
Almost a year has passed since the citizens of Venice, by a 2 to 1 majority, told the Good Ole Growth Gang of Venice that enough was really and truly enough. "Enough" refers to the unrestricted horizontal growth from annexations as well as high density vertical growth within OUR city!
That was Phase I and this November's election will be the time for Phase 2 to kick in. The present council member in Seat #2 has decided to call it a day, so there are three people running for that seat on council.
One of them, John Osmulski is a builder by trade and has usually shown himself to be pro-growth. We believe he now calls it "Smart Growth," possibly meaning that it's smarter NOT to tell the electorate that you are pro-growth.
We are not quite sure what kind of growth the second candidate, Emilio Carlesimo, stands for. He has said that he is in between the pro- and the no-growth people, but we're not sure exactly where. He is however, very strongly tied in with airport pro-growthers and the Fire Fighter's Union, which has always been pro-growth and which has always aligned itself with the land developer's PAC, the CQG. While we appreciate the efforts of the people in our Fire Department as well as the rest of the city's employees, the plain fact is that most city worker groups in the past have usually been pro-growth for obvious reasons.
The third candidate for Council Seat #2 is Kit McKeon. He believes in the same growth standards as the three council members who were elected last November. He seriously believes in keeping the ambiance of Venice at the standards that made us all decide to move here.
We will vote for Kit McKeon because that will give the citizens of Venice a solid majority in council - no matter how the other two vote. The CQG (Cronies for Quantity Growth) and all the rest of the Growth Gang will settle for either Osmulski or Carlesimo, but...
The CQG crowd does NOT want McKeon elected.
WE DO!
Your PC (also known as a PAC), The Concerned Taxpayers PC, needs the money to run newspaper advertisements prior to the November election. The truth must be told! Your donations to the Concerned Taxpayers PC will help to keep Venice a small town community by helping to elect Kit McKeon to the City of Venice Council.
