If the most congested beach with the most serious parking problem is Siesta Key, why don't they start their little "pilot project" there and see how it goes over. Going to the beach is one of those things in life that ought to not be subject to additional charges. I say "additional" because surely we are already paying for them with our local, state and federal taxes. I really don't understand why everyone accepts all these additional user fees and "enterprise funds" but refuse to consider raising the ad valorem taxes. All these fees are taxes by another name and they are NOT deductible from your federal taxes. Ad valorem taxes are deductible from your federal taxes. I'm not saying govt couldn't benefit from a little more efficiency, but we all do want the services, like paved roads, parks, libraries, police and fire protection, EMTs, beautiful beaches, boat docks, etc, we just don't want to pay for them. Rework the system so that it's fair to everyone and keep the ideas coming on how to increase intergovernmental cooperation to increase efficiency and keep costs at a minimum. Bottom line is we have to prioritize, decide what we want and how much we are willing (and able) to pay.
