Mr. Mayor,
Have you had phone conversations or back-and-forth e-mail communication
with any of the Council since taking office?
Sincerely,
Kim Hackett

And if I'm the mayor, I'm really going to answer this. You are doing
everything you can to signal to this guy that you are out to hang him, you
are damned certain he's broken some law, you're just not sure which law
and how he broke it.
This is not how to do investigative journalism. Well, it is if you're
writing for a high-school paper.
Before the mayor answers that, Kim, would you kindly answer the following
question yes or no:
Have you stopped having sex with the thirteen-year-old neighbor boy?
Just yes or no? No explanation, no denial of history, just a quick yes or
no, all I want is one word.
That's an unfair question? Not judging by the Herald-Trib's criteria as
exemplified in your question.
By the way, while we're at it, why not ask each council member if there
has ever been a criminal investigation of allegations into child sexual
abuse that has taken place at their residence while in office. As a follow
up, if the answer is yes, why was it hushed up and why was there no public
disclosure? Go ahead, ask each council member. You will be surprised at
how lucky you'll get.
Now about that thirteen-year-old twink -- yes or no?
[NOTE: I have no information to indicate that Hackett has done anything of the kind and no inference should be drawn. The question posed to Hackett is a hypothetical variant of the old textbook logic trap "Have you stopped beating your wife, yes or no?" It's a question that if answered with either a yes or a no is an admission of guilt when, in fact, guilt has yet to be established.]
