Gary, what do you really have against the VYC

I have been reading your caustic ramblings since you alerted the community, the city and the county politicos to the horrors of the VYC wanting to lease submerged land from the State to build 17 (not 22) additional slips with their own dollars. Imagine, people spending their own money to build docks and not making them available to the public! Disgusting! By the way, if you had read the plans carefully, you would see that the real number of additional slips is 17. Five current slips will be reconfigured and are actually part of the infamous “22.” Do you really think these plans would have been submitted if it had not already been determined by the DEP that there are no sea grasses or other dangers to the environment present? Do you really think that proper engineering measurements weren’t taken to verify that the expansion was not in any current navigation channel? Unlike you, we did our homework Gary. We didn’t shoot half truths and innuendos from the hip and try to generate some kind of class warfare. This brings me to what I really think is up with you. I have a big shock for you Gary. None of us at VYC run around in white ducks, blue double breasted blazers with ascots looking down our noses at our fellow man. You seem to have a problem with anyone who has the funds to own a boat larger than one that can fit on a trailer. Somehow we are all responsible for your parking problems. You throw around inaccurate membership costs for the VYC and harp on the yacht club being full of the “privileged elite” and “well healed members” and that we are “not quite the common persons.” How very Democratic of you! I don’t hear you carping that the VYC financially supports Venice Youth Boating with those same “well healed” dollars. I worked all my life, educated my kids, defended my country and financially prepared for my retirement so I wouldn’t have to rely on the government to take care of me. I don’t need you telling me how to live my life or criticizing my lifestyle and how I choose to spend my money. Maybe you spent too much time guarding those cons up in the prison in Michigan and that’s how you developed that chip on your shoulder. By the way, how did YOU get appointed to this supposed “Harbor Commission” that has developed these wonderful mooring field plans that have not been disclosed to the public? Where is the information about this group or their plans on the city website? When was the public invited to your meetings? What have you done “Mr. Harbor Commissioner” about the derelict boats brought down from Sarasota after they were run out of there? They have been sitting out there in the Roberts Bay on rotting lines tied to engine blocks and break loose every time there is a storm. How about the sail boat live-aboards east of the Point Whitecap condos dumping their sewage into the bay? Good luck with your election campaign. I won’t be voting for anyone with your small minded and petty view of the world.
